How Other People Do It- Empowering Diversity By Exploring Education And Parenting Practices Around The World

Explore parenting practices from cultures worldwide and which of these practices trigger our implicit biases. Develop a deeper understanding of the “why” behind various parenting practices to better understand the many “right” ways to parent.

With more understanding and respect for the “why” behind various beliefs and practices, participants will be able to advocate for their child’s or family’s specific needs when encountering someone from a different point of view.

Learn the connections between the songs we sing and the games we play now, and how this directly affects your child’s academic skills later on! This workshop will have a few easy songs and games that families can play with various ages (infants through preschoolers), along with learning about the why behind how music supports brain development.

You may have heard about how important the first few years of life are for brain development, but did you know how much influence the world around your child can have on future outcomes? While we are all born with a specific genetic makeup, the experiences we have/do not have all shape our brains, determining future outcomes.

In this presentation, I’ll break down the scientific parts behind brain development and epigenetics into easy-to-understand information you can use immediately with your child. Parts of this presentation will focus on prevention (what we can do proactively to give children the best start possible) as well as reaction (what we can do to help children through traumatic or challenging experiences).

Did you know your child has no idea if you are a “terrible” singer or if you are Beyoncé? Your voice is the most magical and comforting sound to them, no matter what past karaoke experiences have led you to believe!

Learn more about how music, specifically singing, creates bonds between people, how co-regulation can occur, and ways to use music to play with your child.

I often hear about young children having tantrums or meltdowns at specific times of the day, especially around times they have to change activities. Because young children do not have the complex vocabulary or speaking ability to explain how upset they are, they use behaviors to act out these feelings.

While not everything can be avoided, using music to help with transitions and expectations can help prevent tantrums. Learn how music can set consistent expectations, communicate with young children, and help promote a positive environment!

This supportive, judgment-free workshop helps families make sense of screen time using clear, research-based information and real-life examples. Caregivers explore how screen use affects young children’s development, how to tell the difference between active and passive media, and what current recommendations actually look like in everyday life. The session encourages reflection rather than guilt, helping families notice their own habits and make intentional choices.

Participants leave with practical strategies and engaging, non-screen alternatives that support connection, learning, and healthy development.

This interactive session invites caregivers and young children to move, sing, and connect as they learn how stress and emotions live in the body. Families explore simple brain science and nervous system basics in an approachable way, gaining insight into regulation, co-regulation, and emotional well-being.

Through movement and music, caregivers experience how connection can be built even in busy or overwhelming moments.

Participants leave with easy, realistic tools they can use at home to support both their own mental health and their child’s emotional development.

This engaging workshop shows families how everyday moments of reading, laughing, and playing build strong communication and thinking skills. Caregivers learn why responsive interactions, shared joy, and following a child’s lead are so powerful for brain development. The session models simple, playful ways to talk, sing, and read with children—without pressure or perfection.

Families leave feeling more confident and equipped to turn ordinary routines into meaningful learning moments.

This fun, hands-on workshop helps families use music to strengthen connection, communication, and emotional bonds. Caregivers learn how simple singing, call-and-response, and playful musical interactions support healthy brain development and deepen relationships. No musical experience is needed—participants are encouraged to be silly, imperfect, and responsive to their child.

Families leave with easy musical strategies they can use during play, routines, and transitions to build connection throughout the day.

This reflective, supportive session helps families explore how stress affects both adults and children—and how it shows up in everyday interactions. Caregivers gain insight into why challenging moments happen and how to maintain connection even when emotions run high. The workshop emphasizes awareness, compassion, and practical strategies for staying present and responsive.

Families leave with a deeper understanding of themselves and tools to strengthen relationships during both calm and stressful times.
